About the Organization: The Mission of the Sotomayor Arts & Sciences Magnet is to use a rigorous and integrated curriculum, along with a student-centered approach, to inspire students to take full ownership of their education to achieve academic success, as well as social and emotional well-being. Through the pursuit of excellence in authentic intellectual and artistic work, Sotomayor aims to graduate students who are effective leaders in their community and impactful global citizens. Our Partnership: The Audubon Center at Debs Park partners with Sotomayor’s Urban Agriculture program to teach students about the benefits of native plants and the ways in which we can holistically build sustainable habitat and sustenance for birds, farm animals, and people. Through our Audubon Youth Leaders program, and our Plants for Birds summer internship program, we have worked with students to further establish and grow the school’s native plant nursery. We also work with their Arts department to elevate student art through community projects, such as screen-printing their own designs onto t-shits for our Pachanga de las Americas event (pictured above).
