Join the Department of Cultural Affairs, Coyotol + Machehualli & the Audubon Center at Debs Park for a set of 5 arts-based workshops for youth (ages 14 and up). These workshops will take place over the course of 2 weeks at the Center. They will be a multi-media exploration of what it means to connect with the built and natural environment of Los Angeles; its history; and its current landscape.
Workshops offered include making cyanotypes; shell working with Indigenous Tongva methods; plant identification through illustration; and more. The materials produced through these workshops will blend together as a unified connection that we will use as a larger representation of Los Angeles.
The workshop series will explore the following questions:
- What does it mean to be from and belong to LA?
- How do we make sense of and navigate our city?
- How can art help us reflect on our role in and relationship to the natural and built environment?
Please join us for this fun and exciting opportunity to learn and create!
