Become a Community Scientist for the day!
What is a Bioblitz?! A Bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area in a short amount of time.
Join Audubon Staff and fellow community members as we explore the biodiversity of Debs Park! As a part of the Natural History Museum of LA County's international competition the City Nature Challenge, participants will use iNaturalist to record and submit wildlife observations! Take pictures of plants, insects, birds, reptiles- you name it- and upload to iNaturalist! No worries if you don't know what you're looking at- let the community of professional scientists who use the iNaturalist platform identify observations for you!
The winner of this bioblitz-style competition will be determined by the city who makes the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people. Dallas/Fort Worth, TX won last year for the most observations, so we have to bring it home for Los Angeles this year! Winning is awesome, but it's not everything. Participating in the City Nature Challenge will help scientists all over the world continue with their research through the observations you make in nature- how cool is that?!
We will have iNaturalist tutorials throughout the day, but you can get ready by taking these steps:
- Visit iNaturalist.org
- Download the app from the AppStore or Google Play
- Sign in
- Start sharing your observations
- Get feedback from actual scientists, experts, and other naturalists
