About the Organization: The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) is dedicated to the preservation and management of local open space and parkland, wildlife habitat, watershed lands, and trails in both wilderness and urban settings, and to ensuring public access to public parkland. It is one of the lead agencies revitalizing the Los Angeles River and its tributaries. Visit their website for more info!
Our Partnership: We work in partnership with MRCA to enhance the habitat at a number of pocket parks that they manage along the LA River – this currently includes Rattlesnake Park, Steelhead Park, Elysian Valley Gateway Park, and the Zev Yaroslavsky LA River Greenway Trail. We mainly accomplish this habitat enhancement work through community volunteer events where volunteers plant native plants, remove invasive species, spread mulch, and more. In addition to enhancing the habitat, we work with MRCA and the local communities to create beautiful spaces where people can connect with, and learn from, nature.
